About Ford Smith
As one of the world’s leading contemporary artists, Atlanta-based painter Ford Smith is renowned for his radiantly serene landscapes, crafted with vivid imagination and technical precision. His work reflects decades of experience, classical training, and an ever-curious mind that continuously redefines the boundaries of landscape art.
Ford’s artistic journey is one of inspiration and reinvention. After earning a BFA in Painting from the University of Mississippi in 1972, he initially took a job in graphic design to support himself. That role evolved into a celebrated 25-year career as Atlanta’s top fashion and commercial photographer. Though his passion for painting never waned, his demanding photography career left little time to return to the canvas—until, at age 50, he boldly decided to follow his true calling.
“I always knew I was meant to be a painter,” Ford shares. “But my photography career was all-consuming. Eventually, I had to return to where my heart truly belonged.” – Ford Smith
